The Gram's Obsession with the 90's Runway

The 90's and 80's are a gold mine for fashion lovers all over the world and are even referred to as "the golden era" of fashion by some. The era when the names of Yasmeen Ghauri, Claudia Schiffer, Cindy Crawford and Naomi Campbell dominated the runway is loved by all.

Those who religiously follow fashion know how people are constantly comparing the models from back then to the ones we have today. And maybe it is the 'old is gold' mentality but many people prefer the models from the 90's. One such reason for this is that many detest the nepo babies of the fashion world. Models such as Kendall Jenner, Gigi and Bella Hadid, though immensely talented receive a fair amount of hate from those who believe that these models get the opportunities mainly because of their contacts and backgrounds and not talent. I believe that these comments, though somewhat true, are a tad unjustified because if they lacked talent no number of contacts could've helped them. So yes, they certainly do enjoy privileges that other models don't have but the credit for their success does not belong to their background alone.

There, of course, are differences between the runway then to what it is now. Fashion shows are now a lot more inclusive in terms of weight and color. Many luxury brands though still insist upon skinny models for their runways, but it's a difference nonetheless.

When asked about the models from the 90's, many critics often state that the models back then looked full of life and as if they are actually having fun as compared to the models today who have a significantly less captivating walk.

Despite everything, one thing is for certain, models like Yasmeen Ghauri and Naomi Campbell walked so that the models now could run.

In my opinion there are always gonna be people who are gonna hate on nepo babies for stupid reasons but the online discourse that I’ve seen about nepo babies has just been about people wanting them to acknowledge the inequities and privileges that they have and not really saying that they are untalented or don’t deserve to be here but I don’t know. Maybe I’m just on the right side of the internet, away from all the hate. :)
