Autumn Trends 2023

The most favourite season, I dare say, is just around the corner. From the fashion shows to the weather to the colours everything is perfect. The first crisp breeze will bring a whirl of trends with it. Some you will love and others you will hate with every fibre of your being. So, let’s breakdown the looks we’ve been seeing on the runways and our Pinterest, shall we?

Starting with designer collections, and my favourite trend, is red. Now obviously what is new about red in autumn, right? It is just as groundbreaking as florals in spring. The difference is, that this year designer brands such as Sandy Liang, Tory Burch, Prabal Gurung, The Row, Balmain, and Ferragamo have been showing major love to bold shades of red. Plus, “red leather lipstick” and cherry red ballet flats have been dominating Pinterest and TikTok. And I am all in for this one.

The next trend is something I have a love/hate relationship with. And that is, dress over denims. Yep, it’s back. I personally feel that some really great fits can come out of this, if done correctly. And if not, I think all of us could imagine the disastrous results it could yield.

‘Unnecessary belts'. Belt slung around a dress, belts just for accessorizing. It has made a comeback in many collections and on social media, it remains to be seen how much of an impact it will have in the upcoming fall fashion.

Two of the predicted trends give me major Gossip Girl vibes and I’m here for it. Neckties and sheer stockings. One will bring out the Chuck Bass in you and the other will bring out the Blair Waldorf. How perfect is that? I’m actually giddy planning outfits in my mind.

This next trend, I cannot stress upon enough. Quiet Luxury. It is evergreen. It is everything. It’s a lifestyle and a lifesaver. Quiet luxury is a trend that can be followed any time of the year and no matter what the current trend is, quiet luxury will always be superior. Quiet luxury refers to the theory that true luxury doesn't require a specific designer logo or flashy items — it favours fashion that is polished, well-fitted, and clean, rather than overtly expensive or exclusive.

For the last autumn trend, I would like to share an extract from British Vogue.

“The season’s biggest look: pared-back, everyday clothes, executed in best-in-class fabrics. The runways at Bottega Veneta, Miu Miu and Loewe were all filled with outfits one could easily imagine throwing on before heading out to take on the day. And if you’re rolling your eyes at a publication extolling the merits of clothes you can actually wear, the difference came in the details that elevated them from mundane to magazine-worthy: a pair of socks rendered in peachy-soft leather at Bottega Veneta, say, or a chain attaching the hem of an oversized white shirt to a shoulder at Loewe, lending its silhouette an artful ripple.”
