Spring Summer 2024

Spring Summer 2024

The season was a turbulent one- what with the news that the spring/summer 2024 show would be Sarah Burton’s last collection for Alexander McQueen and with Gabriela Hearst also departing Chloé. Set against that demoralising disparity, and an equally sobering economic and political backdrop, designers played it safe for spring/summer 2024. The palette was muted, with black and white blotting out the colour-box brights that typically come to the fore for summer collections.

We’re not rid of the minimalism quite yet. The logos that were thought to be making a comeback were overridden by discreet chic and according to British Vogue quiet luxury is turning into the 90’s NYC elegance. A comeback of the 90’s would mean luxury labels, retro chic and obviously grunge. There’s also a matter of a comeback that is bothering the millennials and that is the “y10k sleaze”. Now obviously I cannot speak from experience seeing that I was a third grader at the time, but I can certainly see there is resentment around this particular trend. The leopard prints are coming back. And given that cherry red is still very much in one can only imagine the atrocities this season is capable of. As long as we are talking about comebacks, Vogue France pointed out the hint of fifties in the collections with polka dots and the clean and sharp timeless cuts.

Trends that you could rock this season include:

·        Utility wear

·        Fringes

·        Polka dots

·        Stripes

·        Three Dimensional Flowers

·        Layering

·        Pencil skirts

·        Hues of purple (lilac, amethyst)

·        Eyelets (grunge comeback as I said)

·        Oversized Blazer
