In honor of Karl

The biggest fashion night of the year: the Met Gala, stirs up intrigue, excitement and obviously controversy. This year, though, the event also faced backlash and hatred.

The reason is simple: the theme. Karl Lagerfeld though a huge asset to the fashion industry, was not a very nice person, he was a fatphobe, against feminists and gay marriage despite being a gay man himself.

But I want to address the elephant in the room. A large chunk of the public is hating on those celebrities who chose to celebrate Karl Lagerfeld. Their main issue is that if they refer to themselves as "feminists" or a supporter of the LBTQ+ community then they should not have attended this year's Met. I see the sentiment but it's really not as simple as just not going. The Met is not like any other event. You cannot decline.

If you reject the invitation once, you will never receive it again. So, I believe that the celebrities choose to go the Met because it's a prestigious event and one that they cannot afford to get uninvited from.

Karl Lagerfeld as I said before, was indeed a huge asset to the fashion industry and the legacy he left behind would inspire generations to come, but all in all I really feel that it is quite unnecessary to make him the theme for the Met, even though he was a close friend of Anna's.

What do you think?
