Elie Saab

You say lace, pearls and embroidery, I hear Elie Saab. Each piece curated at Elie Saab is a monument to the peak craftsmanship and talent that this particular fashion house epitomises. The brand was created in Lebanon not long after the civil war. It was created by Elie Saab who wanted to make dresses for his sisters. Elie also became the first Arab to be a part of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture. For those who don’t know, only those brands can refer to their pieces as ‘haute couture’ who are a part of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture. Elie Saab’s brand gained recognition mainly 1997-2000. Since then, many celebrities and royalty have been spotted wearing the sleek silhouettes of the iconic brand.

One thing that everyone in the fashion industry enjoys is boasting about their knowledge of various brands and the ability to recognise which piece was created by which designer. Here I’m going to share how one can spot an Elie Saab amongst others. Just like Dior can be recognised by tulle and Chanel by the iconic tweed, Ellie Saab is recognised by feathers, drapes, pearls and, most importantly, sequins. Saab also mentioned the influence of the Mediterranean in his designs. He says that he enjoys to see the light of the mediterranean in his designs so he uses a lot of warm colours and sequins. In SS4, models were seen donning dresses with sleek silhouettes, deep V necks and statement shoulders. Saab says that he doesn’t have anyone muse and is inspired by all women and chooses to design dresses that embellish the form of the woman who wears it.

Unlike other global brands Ellie Saab draws his inspiration from middle and southern parts of Asia. Fragrances developed by the fashion house have notes of jasmine and clothes adorned with rose petals and bouquets of peonies designed to hug the feminine curves of the woman who wears it. “I like feminine elegance, not extravagance” stated Saab in an interview made to some fashion magazine. His style is hard unique, feminine, sophisticated and dreamy. A man that remains faithful to his roots.
